What critically aclaimed videogame did you hate?

Ocarina of Time.

I posted this in a submission on /r/Rant, but it fits here so I'll post it here as well.

I get it's a touchy thing to say on the internet, but I just don't like the game. I never played it as a kid, I think the first time I played it was when I was 20 or 19? A few years ago anyway.

When people say there's a lot of nostalgia with it when it gets its praises, they're absolutely right. But then they say "So I played it again and I still loved it!" yeah, that's exactly what nostalgia is. You loved it as a kid so you love it now, because even though you don't think of it that way, you're just loving it because you loved it back then. You might be different and genuinely enjoy the game, but god-damn, if people would stop talking about it as if it's the 3rd installment of the bible...

The controls are janky, the combat is simple and annoying, moving around isn't smooth and gets frustrating because the platforming is demanding something the controls/movement can't provide. The world isn't massive and expansive, and it's actually pretty standard size when you take out all the open empty spaces in it.

Yeah I get it was revolutionary at the time it was made and it was a huge leap forward. I also love plaformers/adventure games, but this game is so highly praised, I can't not take a critical look at it.

Pac-man. Classic. Tetris. Classic. Super Mario Bros. Classic. These are all games that are just so perfect at what they provided, everyone else may have just stopped trying cause it wasn't gonna get any better than that. Ocarina of Time may have been the best there was when it came out, but there's just so many other games out there that have taken what OOT showed us games could do, expanded on it, and did it so much better.

I dunno how many people out there agree with me. Far less than the people who don't. I don't hate this game. Maybe I'm just a little jealous cause I never had it as a kid so I can't get that nostalgia about it. Maybe that's why I'm pissed about it. There's this amazing cool thing that exists and I just can't see it.
