Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested on November 22, 1963, shortly after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He was charged with the murder of President Kennedy and was later also charged with the murder of Dallas police officer J.D. Tippit.

Oswald denied shooting either Kennedy or Tippit, but the Warren Commission concluded that he was the lone assassin in both cases. In 1979, the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) agreed with the Warren Commission's findings that Oswald acted alone in assassinating President Kennedy, but they also concluded that there was a "probable conspiracy" in the assassination of Officer Tippit.
