honestly, what's the big deal? do all of you dislike this simply because it's a popular thing to do/trendy? climbing mt. everest is still an incredible & extraordinary feat for any human to accomplish, no matter how long the line. do you guys not realize that??? or did you only not-hate on everest climbers before it was "cool"??? and for those of you saying it's unsafe blah blah blah, literally no it isn't. multiple experienced everest climbers have said that's it's no more unsafe with a line than it is without one. of course it is extremely dangerous (which is why it's such an incredible feat), but it's not any more dangerous because of the amount of people. here is an article where a dude who has climbed everest 24 times says lines aren't what's killing climbers, inexperienced guides are.
