What example of "suspicious behavior" in a criminal investigation or mysterious death/missing persons do you believe to be a red herring?

Kind of the opposite of suspicious behaviour, but: I think too many people focus on the fact Maura Murray cashed out her savings, packed her college textbooks, and phoned a bunch of hotels and had a few maps as the reason for her having a planned, logical getaway.

Out of context, it makes it sound like she carefully planned to vacation and was always going to come back, but the reality is most of her behaviour was extremely erratic. Maura had some kind of breakdown at work shortly before she disappeared. She packed up all her belongings into boxes, and placed an email from her boyfriend on top of them. She told no one that she was leaving, made up lies to colleagues that made no sense. She spent $40 of her $280 just on alcohol, and there were open bottles in her car. She left the vast majority of things in her car, but took alcohol when she ran.

Television shows act like Maura was just taking a vacation, or going somewhere specific, or getting away for a little while -- but all evidence points to Maura having a serious mental health breakdown. This turns the tides for me; I'm less likely to believe she's alive, was kidnapped, or jumped into another car, and far more likely to believe she died of exposure due to mental health instability.
