What happens after I use my Ifak

The answer to your question is you die. I’m in college for EMS currently and if you suffer any significant wound without access to medical professionals you’re going to most likely die.

Your best bet for something on the limbs is the basics. TQ and have someone bandage it with something hopefully sterile. After the immediate part of it all your next step is to have someone remove the first dressing, properly clean the area and the wound channel/laceration/whatever it is, repack it if it warranted packing to start, and reapply new dressings. Then slowly remove the TQ if the bleeding is at a minimum, or at least loosen it for a few to promote blood flow if it’s been over 2 hours since application. Keeping it on longer will start causing damage to it.

An important part to note here is your options diverge, if you were lucky you’re going to have to deal with debridement and draining of the wound without sedatives. On top of that, your function of the limb may be permanently hindered by the damage done. If you weren’t so lucky, you’re likely losing the limb and your life to any manner of nasty infections over a protracted and grim length of time.

TL:DR your ifak will save your life but luck will let you keep it.
