What is it like to blackout? (Drugs, alcohol, medical issues, etc)?

I’ve blacked out 3 times all from an injury to my foot where I had a cut artery and was basically bleeding to death. I lost around 30-35% of my blood according to the doctors.

But for me it wasn’t sudden. I can remember most of what happened leading up to actually blacking out. The most notable thing loss of senses.

It started out with dizziness, nausea. But quickly escalated to feeling cold and my skin going pale. As i kept losing blood, I passed out. When I regained consciousness, I realized I had very little sensation of touch. Then my mouth became dry, I assume due to labored breathing. There was a massive amount of blood, but I couldn’t smell it.

Then my vision started to go. My peripheral vision began to tunnel, and my vision began to blur. Before long, I blacked out again. When I woke my vision was almost completely gone. It was just a smear of colors, I couldn’t make out anything. Around this time is where my memory starts to go.

I slowly drift out of consciousness, and then I’m just gone. I didn’t have any thoughts or feelings, it was like I had never existed. But suddenly, I’m yanked out of that abyss and I’m awake.

The doctors stopped the bleeding, and were looking at me with a pretty shocked expression. My friends translated for me (I was in China when this injury occurred, and I spoke very little Chinese at the time). They thought I was going into a coma, but were very happy to see that I hadn’t. I can’t remember their names, but I’ll never forget their faces

TLDR: almost bled to death, was a slow process of losing the senses
