James Tiptree Jr. wrote a story speculating about a future where the human brain's desire for novelty makes any aliens we encounter a kind of supernormal stimulus. In the story, humans are only just technologically advanced enough to warrant communication and trade with more advanced species. But they kind of view us as horny goblins.

Tiptree was a self-professed xenophile. She hear the standard, "Well, Star Trek is unrealistic because aliens wouldn't have evolved to be sexy to us," and countered with, "Well I think that the weirder it is, the more we'll want to fuck it."

I don't share that opinion, but I thought it was a fun story.
