What is ping abusing? How does high ping (150) give you an advantage

I'm not sure how much of an advantage it would give you given all the systems in place to make the game more fair regardless of network conditions, but to better answer this question I think it is important to understand what the game means by "ping". I've noticed a lot of players in all chat seem to misunderstand how ping and latency work and what their affect on the game are. To break it down "ping" is a term in networking that refers to a signal being sent over a network to a destination (in this case from your computer to game server). "Latency" is the amount of time it takes for that ping (usually in miliseconds) to make that round trip from your computer to the server and then the server to ping you back (this is the number you see listed as your ping in game). Now in siege you are sending all sorts of information to the game server and it is sending all sorts of information back (player positions, shots fired, state of assets, etc). This is oversimplifying it but this is how a lot of games work multiplayer wise. Players are constantly updating the server as to what is going on in their version of the match and the server is passing that information on to everyone else in as close to real time as it can.

So lower latency means you theoretically should be getting updated on the state of things quicker than someone with a higher one. Which should theoretically give you an advantage. Someone with higher latency should theoretically be updated slower and that should theoretically put them at a disadvantage. A lot of games try and put systems in place that even the playing field regardless of network environment.

So the tl;dr? Can higher ping be advantageous? In specific situations possibly. But so can low ping. Networks arent always perfect and you also have to take into account factors other than latency.
