At what point did you realize you and China were incompatible?

A generalization, but one thing that is starting to wear me out is the seemingly widespread idea that Chinese cultural practices and beliefs can't just stand on their own, and must actively be proven to be correct or the best. As an example, I was talking to a student the other day, and she asked me why I didn't take a nap in the middle of the day. We then got into a discussion about how it is more of a cultural practice than a necessity. She agreed, but then told me that she had a textbook in primary school that said the mid-day nap was necessary and healthy because the day is too long in the summer, so you have to sleep. So, once again, they have a cultural practice, which is perfectly fine, but they have to actually take it a step further and attempt to prove that it is the only way things can be done.

On a similar note, I am getting very tired of people who admit they have never tried any food that isn't Chinese telling me that Chinese food is the best and the tastiest. I mean, it very well may be, but how would they know?
