What product is, unexpectedly, a massive ripoff?

Can you confirm you can get better health insurance without a job. After I lost my job and the health insurance that went with it I found out I qualified for Medicaid so I applied for it and my plan was only use it if I really really needed it.

Well I got sick and I was actually afraid to use it because of the area I live in the fact that I was on unemployment from another state. Eventually I got so sick that I couldn't ignore it anymore and I finally went to the doctor who told me I have to go to the hospital. Well I ended up spending a week there and then I needed to see a specialist and here's how amazing it was I didn't pay anything. I didn't pay anything for the doctor visit, for a week in the hospital, to see the specialist, or for any of the prescriptions I needed afterwards.

I was on it for close to a year but I only used it the last couple of months it was the best insurance I've ever had.

Now depending on how tax season goes this year I may end up having to pay some of it back, but we'll see.

It also does to an extent feel like you're being punished when using some government services. Like I said I was afraid to use Medicaid but also when I was on unemployment I felt I was routinely punished for using unemployment. Basically with the unemployment I was also working with the temp agency who would occasionally find me something for a few days or a week and I will report that to unemployment who would not pay me for the time I was working for the temp agency which I was fine with since I was working however they wouldn't pay me after I completed the assignment for the temp agency and trying to get into contact with them was a nightmare every time I called and I was unemployed so I could call them several times a day I would receive an automated message stating that there were too many people calling and I should try again later then I would get disconnected this will go on for a week or two and then eventually I would get an automated message telling me that they would call me back on a certain date and time usually about a week after so I would do that and they would eventually call me back I spoke with a representative who solved and then send me the missing payments. However by the time this was all over the temp agency would send me another assignment and then we would start all over again eventually I said to a representative I felt like I was being punished for following the rules and reporting that I was working the rest agreed with dance and fortunately there was nothing they could do about that.
