What is the scariest film that doesn't resort to cheap jump scares?

There are literally people in this thread saying that the ghost in the beginning made them scream and jump out of their seats.

But that's okay, everyone has a different perspective on them. I felt the movie being hyped up for months as "the most horrifying movie in DECADES" was hyperbolic, and there were a lot of sudden-scares in it.

We can agree to disagree, I like seeing all the different perspectives on the movie. It seems that people with family related trauma responded very differently to this film than I did. I just kept expecting something MORE after being told it was so grotesque and terrifying that people walked out of the theatre, and I felt let down. That's all.
