What is something that your parents did that you swore never to repeat to your own kids?

My mom would always ask what I wanted to be and then tell me why I couldn't be that. Usually it had something to do with her. What she wanted or how she felt. I wanted to be a cop. Nope too dangerous. Firefighter. Also too dangerous. Surgeon. They don't let you sleep etc. etc. etc. Eventually I stopped wanting to be anything and ended up not going to university and just working menial jobs. I am very intelligent and got really good grades in high school. I could've literally been anything I wanted but had any desire to find my passion pushed aside. She lives with me now (fucking love that...) and tried to start the same shit with my daughter. I shut it the fuck down real quick. She still complains about their lack of enthusiasm for whatever it is she wants them to do - for example - she is from Finland she speaks Finnish fluently obvs. I asked her why she never taught us (my sisters and i) to speak Finnish. She said "you didn't want to learn". Uhhh what? Yep not her fault. Always someone else's. Now my kids are at fault because she didn't start teaching them when they were babies like I asked her to and now has to deal with a tween and a teen. We were considering having the kids move to Finland with her (we live in the south of France) but my daughter has changed her mind because she doesn't want to be trapped with her without me there to rein her in. I totally get it. I was kinda looking forward to finally getting rid of the old bat though
