What tricks do you use to help your day go smoothly?

Writing down the 2 highlights of the day every day before I sleep. And every week/month/year, choose one from that period. Best thing I have ever done. Focused my thoughts on all the great things that happen. every morning I wake up thinking: what will I write on my highlight list today. and in the evening, it's almost difficult to determine the highlights out of lots of positive things. and picking a highlight of the month/year... just makes you grateful. edit: Wow, since I surpassed the "poop before it becomes an emergency" guy, I thought of editing this and answer some of the most common question. But before I do that, let me tell you that your positive feedback is definitely one highlight of my day Ok, here are some FAQs How long have you been doing this? A: 1.5 years. Every day. The book is actually not that thick, since it's only two lines per day. I have a boring life, what should I write down? A: The task is to find happiness in the mundane things. Keeping this journal has taught me that the big challenge is to find beauty in everyday life. There are days where the highlight is "the smell of my morning coffee" or "Lots of green lights when I drove to work". Someone mentioned all he/she did was studying all day - I had days like this, and I noted the break that i took, or the feeling of having learnt something. It doesn't have to be something special, it's essentially those small things that you need to focus on. in fact, this method is all about the small things. So especially on the days when you feel like you can't think of anything - don't stop until you have found something. What do you do on days when you feel like the world is collapsing, when you are really feeling bad? A: I had some really rough days in that time as well. Specifically, there is one day that is empty. No entry there. It was a really black day for me. But now when I look at it, it is surrounded by happy days, so it had to surrender. Someone wrote that he/she was forced to write it on particularly bad days. Sorry for what you had to go through, my friend. it was really stupid of your teacher to do that. Could you share some of your highlights? A: most of my highlights are very mundane things. Some of them are really important to me. Here is one of my favorites, will probably be among the top in 2012 - "Today my niece said my name for the first time" :)
