What was your scariest "A second later and I would've died" moment?

I'm glad your sister noticed, that sounds terrible. My brother also started drowning once.

When I was around 6 or 7, I was swimming in the middle end that went up to 6ft. My mom has taken my sister (year younger than me) and I swimming at an early age so we were pretty good swimmers, or at least good enough to swim at the deeper ends of 9ft. I guess my little brother felt left out cause he started wandering closer to where I was. I was doing my own thing and hadn't noticed him as he didn't yell or really give any indication he was drowning (which I learned later is what happens when you drown) but I turned around and spotted his panicked face right as he went underwater. I remember saying his name aloud urgently and immediately swimming for him.

I wasn't strong enough to pull him up or carry him while swimming so instead I ducked under him and gave him a sort of piggyback on my shoulders so that he was now able to be on the surface (while my head was underwater) and I "walked" to the edge as quickly as I could. I got tired quickly and at one point I was mildly panicking at the lack of air but I made sure I was able to push my brother onto the edge before surfacing.

My mom hadn't noticed but she was terrified when we walked up to tell her and watched us a lot more closely afterwards.
