What's your best "I can't believe I was that lucky" story?

A few years ago I went to India with a friend and we were fooled into buying a travel package from a company we had been steered to by a tuk tuk driver. As soon as we got back to our hotel after paying for the flights, trains, and hotels in a huge package we realized we should have at least googled the company before we bought anything. Well we did then and there and of course there were plenty of reviews of the company stating they had screwed up reservations, or not made them at all, and refused to give refunds. Needless to say my travel partner and I were pretty upset, but as we had a flight leaving the next morning we figured we should at least try to go on the trip they had planned for us. The first hotel we stayed at was angry that we did not want to buy any of their planned activity packages, so they put us on an earlier shared jeep ride than we had been scheduled for and told us the next hotel would be ready for us upon our arrival. They weren't and at this point we were terrified that our entire trip was going to be a similar experience. So we had to get on the phone with the agency to complain and they actually took care of the problem. The rest of the trip continued with a few minor speedbumps, but what was really important was all the transportation they had booked for us came through, and if we ever showed up to a hotel they had booked early or late, the agency took care of it. In the end we overpaid for mediocre accommodations, but we made it through our whole trip intact and didnt have to do much planning on our own.
