Oh man. I have a few of these especially because I had one friend in college that would give nicknames to everyone we played basketball with, but:
High school…
College… - I proudly coined my mild-mannered, athletic buddy Alec “Big Fat Alec”. He was 5’9 and not an ounce over 135 lbs. - Awesome Asian buddy that, until Junior year, I had no idea went by Trey Chan the Science Man. Swimmin’ in it. - Had this guy that kinda forced his way into our friend group. Let him play some random xbox arcade game with us once, he made a profile called “Consumptus”, which I guess is Latin for “having been devoured/consumed”. My other friend made a counter-account called “Digestus”, both kind of stuck. - In intramural football a pal wore gardening gloves to catch the football and we called him “Green-Thumb”. - Girl I knew would auto-correct in my phone to “Bang” and it became a not-so-discrete reference. - Joe Wow.. smart kid, the least socially aware someone could possibly be. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being Gary Busey, he was a -4. He would say “Wowwww” to everything, even if you said hi to him. He’d play/draw Pokemon through all his classes and still did well, I don’t even know why he went.
Playing pickup basketball in college… - A different friend named Chan had enormous calves and was everywhere on the court, I guess those two identifying factors led to the moniker “Air Chan”. - Rando that would always show up and play we called “Splenda”. Not cause his jumpshot was sweet/smooth or anything, he actually wasn’t very good. Just a nice, sweet kid. - Cinemax - Friend in my hall had a hairy chest and he was “Rogaine”. We never played shirts versus skins, he was just really hairy. - I never knew the catalyst but everyone called this one kid “Olaf Dagger”. Zero backstory on it, his name was Kevin or something. - One of the RAs would always play shirtless, in a tank, or ripped up sleeveless shirt. He was actually pretty nasty and he was built so he became “Trent Uzzi” for his arms and penchant to throw up jays.
Hope I got them all, what a trip down memory lane.
