When did your parent(s) take something too far?

My parents (in the 70s, energy crisis, recession) wanted to be completely independent in terms of food, and hear. We were otherwise normal, dad was an engineer, we went to normal school, normal social life etc, but had some land, farmed it, animals, bees, sheep heated with wood etc. every item on our table was home grown. Except for salt. Taking it too far ....was dad trying to get us to go without salt. That didn't last long. (Also, in hindsight was kind of dumb. We lived not far from a salt mine, or could have just bought a huge supply. Salts important enough that going without isn't really a great plan anyway. Also- learning to card and spin wool was probably overkill, but was kind of fun but not as ridiculous as the salt thing. We rebelled and it last more than a couple of days.
