White woman accused of threatening black women in Charlotte is missing, police say

This. On a related note, I think that society would be way better off if people would focus on having TRUE dialogues with individuals rather than just seeking to become victim-famous and shame people into oblivion. Obviously there is a point where you can't civilly converse with people, but I would say that such incidents do not constitute the majority.

I was recently discussing this topic with an old roommate of mine who is a POC. His take on it was that many bigoted or backwards views can be overcome if you can just connect with someone on an interpersonal level and focus your shared humanity. To paraphrase a few statements from the conversation - "I think we are causing more problems than we are solving nowadays with respect to matters of social justice. We are so quick to publicly vilify individuals and destroy their lives without thinking of the associated butterfly effect. Do you think someone is going to magically change their views if they lose their job and start getting death threats around the clock? It is human nature to become defensive of a personal belief - no matter how incorrect. On the tame end, that ostracized person is just going to look for a group of extremists who will welcome and accept their backwards views. On the deep end, the person is either going to end up killing themselves or if they truly feel they have nothing left to lose, they may end up going on a killing spree against those they have perceived to have wronged them. Granted, it is difficult and uncomfortable to have those hard conversations - but would we as a society not be better off for it?"
