I am almost three decades old and you've put into words a phenomenon that has made me viscerally uncomfortable for as long as I can remember. It goes beyond the surface level "look at me" performance art and penetrates some deeper layer of me through to my bones, at which I would never sing in front of another individual, not even with a gun to my head. And I'm a guitarist who is not a stranger to performing.

That said, to have an individual transform from cutting it up with me about fantasy football or anal one second to Celine Dion the next, it freaks me out. I think I can trace it back to singing in bed as a fifth-grader one night and my dad coming into my room laughing saying to stfu because he needed to sleep.

In summary, I'm no longer sure if this is a personal problem or if it's a genuine thing that just like, hey, don't do that! Bad!
