Will Vancouver think big on transit?

I just don't get what the No side thinks the alternative is going to be. You can vote No and 'punish' TransLink and then we'll all be continuously fucked for the next 20 years as the population steadily increases and we have no increase in transit capacity.

The no is simple, translink has a history of bullshit. The most recent example is the Canada Line Just to lay the gist of it out. The project was budgeted at $1.35bn, it was than increased by $343mn (to meet the approved bid), it was then increased to $2.054, and finally Translink triumphantly stated that they had come in on budget... Here's a breakdown of how much was paid for the Canada line:

  • Government of Canada: $450 million
  • Government of British Columbia: $435 million
  • Vancouver Airport Authority: $300 million
  • TransLink: $334 million
  • City of Vancouver: $29 million[44]

Yeah, that's right, Translink paid less than 20% of the budget for their project.

Translink has a history of having [atrocious](www.vancouversun.com/news/metro/glitch+force+changes+Compass+Card+transit+fare+system/10332972/story.html) financial control.

TransLink's 17 cents per litre gas tax, hydro levy, property tax, and parking tax led the independent transit commissioner to say that "TransLink's funding formula is the best in Canada." Hardly a ringing endorsement for giving them even more tax money to waste.

Here's another thing to keep in mind Ian Jarvis, former CEO of translink, but is still on the payroll, made $422,407 ( $338,707 before bonuses) in 2013. Our Prime Minister makes $163,700 for being an MP, and $163,700 for being Prime Minister that's a total of $327,400... yeah, the CEO of our transport company makes more (even if we just compare base salary) than the Prime Minister of Canada...

Put this all together, and you have an incompetent company that has show nothing but a brazen lack of care for how it does business, or how well it keeps its budgets. Until they can be shown that they are financially responsible, AND can complete projects on time (cough cough compass cough), then don't deserve to handle more money, as all it guarantees is more waste, not more progress. I'd rather waste my own money, rather than have some greedy corporate company waste it on programs that come out 2-3-never years late...

TLDR; sound familiar
