Working Longer Hours at Higher Grades

Non-supervisory 15 in an office full of non-sup 14s and 15s. The expectation is that you get your work done no matter what because our deadlines are largely external.

We get credit hours for hours worked over 80/pp, capped at 24 hours total. My credit hours have been maxed out for about two months, so I’ve worked a lot for free during that time and can finally use it over the holidays. Commonplace in my office, way worse for our equals in the private sector who are always on the clock.

We are OT exempt and management discourages claiming comp time by telling us we “need to be more efficient,” which is total BS. HQ expanded work bands to 10pm, so there’s a lot less off-the-clock work and I refuse to work weekends.

I plan on pushing the comp time issue with management in the future, such as when assignments actually require weekend work.
