USFS lost 2500 of the 3300 employees hired last year

Low pay and some of the locations are becoming to expensive think Moab it’s rest of US. But the housing is super expensive, good luck trying to survive. And there’s other places as well that housing is a big factor and people can’t afford it. I’ve talked to some USFS employees and they were doing “van life” since they couldn’t afford rent. a lot of have said it’s gotten worse in their area ( somewhere in Minnesota). The pay grades are not great district offices ranger is usually a GS-12/13 and most people below are 11s. At least where I am at. And inflation, housing, takes a toll where some left for greener pastures. I know quite a few locations that have a hard time hiring seasonals, my take is the pay and long process. One supervisor mentioned McDonald’s pays more then us this guy has been with the USFS more then 30 years. It used to be gov job paid well and more. Now things have changed. He also told me they downgraded a few positions to. So now they are facing issues .
