Would you rather read the same story as a book, or a VN? Why?

I find value in both. I think, with works that make full use of the visual novel as a medium, there can be a lot achieved in terms of presentation that cannot be shown through a book. Particularly in how it offers a unique means to explore dozens of potentialities that most books aren't equipped to handle well.

But, I also think there are some works I would hate to read as a VN. There is an intimacy in the pure, unembellished plain text of a novel that inspires the imagination as if it's a missive directly from the author. I believe I'd find the usual trappings of a VN distracting and unnecessary if I wanted to enjoy something like Mishima's works. There's something potent about the ability to just linger on a printed line that I've never experienced with a VN.
