I agree and disagree. Renting sucks because it's so expensive, but it's silly to hate landlords as a whole for that. They're all playing the game, but I will gladly support a small-time landlord who's just doing it as a side hustle or future investment rather than a corporation who will screw you out of every last dollar if possible. I've had cool landlords, and I'd gladly pay to live in one of their properties because it's a reciprocal relationship.

However, regarding your "if you don't want to pay rent, then save your money and buy a house..." comment, I don't personally understand this. That's the common sense thing to do, and in past decades, that's what people did. Now, rent is more expensive than mortgages, but (most) mortgages require a substantial down payment. If you're circling the drain, you're forced to pay the rent to stay afloat than to do what's best for your future. I can't wait to stop renting for that reason, but for now, I'm doing what I have to
