[WP] An astronaut has been stranded on an alien planet for 3 years.

The lonesome astronaut looked down on an old faded picture of earth in a dimly lit planet. "Has it only been 3 years? Feels like an eternity since I landed here" he thought to himself. The phone to radio back home was just white noise now, since he was too far from home. He had lived under the same rock for the past 3 years and eaten the same little mushrooms that grew around it and drank from same small geyser of water. The planet only had one distant sun but the atmosphere kept the planet warm enough. No moons, just one dim lit planet with massive mushrooms that grew in it. Other than the mushrooms, the planet seemed barren. The astronaut never really explored the planet since the mushrooms grew too thick and honestly, he was down right afraid to. No working compass, sense of direction or anything. The only thing he had going for him was the fact that the air was breathable. He often gazed up at the stars but he could never tell where home was. It seemed like loneliness was his only companion in this lonely planet. However, one night he was awoken by a "shrieking" sound. It sounded like a baboon. That was the first loud noise he had heard since his ship crashed. His heart jumped in fear as he quickly stumbled to pick up the flash light. He pointed it towards the massive outcrop of mushrooms. He was certain the sound came from over there. Suddenly, he heard another one from behind. His mind raced as to what it could be. The planet was barren, he hadn't seen a single life form other than the mushrooms in the past 3 years. Suddenly the howls and shrieks came from all directions. It was deafening. He couldn't understand what was going on. He never felt true fear like this. In a distant planet. What was he to do? Atleast on earth, you could gaze up to the sky and see something familiar that could put his mind at ease. But here, there is nothing. you look up and all you see is the face of the unknown looking down on you. He grabbed the old picture of earth and curled up into the ball looking at it. That was home. That's where he wants to go. That's where he should be. Not here. The shrieks and howls got really close. He could feel the breath against his ears. He finally took his eyes off home to look at the face of the unknown for the last time. And it looked back at him. It had fangs cropping and shooting out of all directions from its mouth. Its pupils were massive and its nose was large. It wasn't alone either. The mushroom tops were filled with them. The ground was filled with them. He felt a sharp pain on his abdomen and then his neck. People say you feel at peace right before you die but he didn't feel it. He felt sheer terror. He took one last glance at the ripped up picture of earth by the claws of the unknown before fading to black.
