Young South Koreans call their country ‘hell’ and look for ways out

As a Korean, I don’t agree with other ideas on this thread. Actually, Korean has relatively high standard of living: a luxury car, a nice house in 강남, 70 million dollars salary(or more) a year, etc. Everyone wants to take it but it is impossible because South Korea is not a utopia. The perspective of Korean is simple; “all or nothing”. Therefore, Korean believes if you were not the best, you would be a looser. This kind of thought makes them dissatisfied, competitive, and stressful. Korean has, in general, values that the equality of outcome is important. That is another reason why Korean is dissatisfied with their life even everything around them is abundant. If someone could have much money, Korean believes they have to. The education system of Korea is stressful. But it is not a factor that Korean says their country hell. Over 400 years, the Chosen dynasty had selected bureaucrats by exam and it was open for the common people formally but not actually. Combined with Neo-Confucianism, which is the ideology of the dynasty, the philosophy of nature and morality of human, Korean has been believing that the education is important because it completes their child as one person that has morality and knowledge. Therefore, the education system, represented as a hackwon, is not the reason of the dissatisfaction by the young. They are suffered from the education system. But nobody denies its necessity. Think about the modern history of Korea, 헬조선 is a bizarre word for me. My grandfather was born in the era under the Japanese imperialism, which is a terrible regime in history ever. After that, he fought in the Korea war. My father, started his own business in the poorest country and ruin of the war although he didn’t have any money and skill. Before my admission into the college, lots of student fought for the freedom and democracy against the military regimes. These periods are REAL HELL but not today. Like previous changing in Korea, It is just a change and conflict: becoming real capitalism, a resist against old generation, etc
