"Your Name." Delivers $1.6M in First Weekend of U.S. Debut

People talk like there is nothing offensive about the term weeaboo because it's used it this tongue in cheek way to describe anime nerds nowadays or in a self deprecating way.

But back in 2005 I primarily got called a weeaboo/wapanese by racist jerks. Who thought that me enjoying stuff made by or featuring Asian people was evidence I didn't have enough "pride" in my heritage and decided to make me feel terrible for it.

Fun fact: The term "weeaboo" comes from "wapanese", which was "white" added to Japanese. It was supposed to analogous to the word wigger, except without the explicit racial slur. With the implication that if you're a Westerner, you should keep to your own culture and stop watching Asian stuff.

There was all that stuff about people who act like Japan is a perfect paradise added on. But it's obvious that's the way assholes actually meant it or if they cared if that were actually true. Lot of people just used it to attack people who didn't share their own xenophobia.

Though don't underestimate that black people get crap for this also. I've watched videos from and heard stories from black people talking about being bullied for liking Kpop and other Asian media.
