Watching anime with no expectations

Just so I can elaborate by what I meant by "unsurety" - the said seasonal I have to wait on a few more eps for is Oshi no Ko (hush, I know everyone's loving it completely, leave me be T__T). It's kind of a weird example since it was 4 eps but since my points can be applied to the first 20 minutes, it's fine. Aaaanyways:

The pilot gave me 2 expectations:

  • It'll have high writing-quality and I like how it explores character emotions.
  • Specific plot tropes are gonna occur which I'm not into.

After I finished ep 1, this left me with a huge pro and huge con. The plot tropes were just guesses, but when I told them to several people who'd read the manga they confirmed I was correct about them. So the reason I have to wait a few more eps now is to see which part wins out for me. Those tropes are gonna happen either way. But from the pro, there's a possibility with execution, I might enjoy them despite my personal tastes.

What I'm getting at is yes, I have to wait more than an ep. So yes, there are exceptions. But even then, ep 1 DID set the correct expectations. It just so happens that this time around, I have enough idea of what's coming, but I don't know if I'll like it or not xD
