23, Male, And Ready To Make A Change (But How?)

Don't jump into it expecting to make a lifestyle change overnight. When I first started, I was eating fast food nearly every day. I tried swearing off fast food completely and switching only to water overnight. I failed within a week. Then I tried again. Same outcome.

I did some reading and asked for advice which works pretty well: Just reduce your bad habits slowly and replace them with good ones. Eating fast food every day? Eat fast food/comfort foods every other day, then after a week or so, every couple days. Then once a week, and once a month, and so on. You have to condition yourself to be successful. Start small and work your way there.

Also, learn to cook. You can make some seriously awesome healthy food if you know how to cook. And really work on not over eating. Drink a bottle of water before you have your meal. You're not as hungry as you think you are. Portion correctly and don't go back for more. Over time, you'll start to lose those temptations, at least to an extent. Man, I could go ham on a double quarter pounder with cheese and large fries right now, and the McDonalds is right next to my complex. I could totally do it, but I won't. I have healthy options here if I feel hungry.

Exercise. Anytime I'm hungry when I shouldn't be, I exercise somehow. Remember that that hunger is false. You technically can lose all the weight you want by reducing caloric intake, but exercising helps a lot, and you can eat more than if you didn't for the same results! It's hard to do at first, so again, start small. I recommend a Couch to 5K program. You can download an app on your phone that you use on your runs to help you out. Basically, the way they work, is you start off by walking/jogging. As you progress further, you walk for less time and jog for longer. Eventually, you are able to run a 5K in about half an hour.

Last, and most importantly, it's YOUR body. YOU earn it. I'm still in the process of losing weight. I'm in the same spot you are. You cannot trust anything that claims it will do work for you (I.e. Fat burning pills, weight loss pills, etc.). If you want it bad enough, GO GET IT!

I came to terms that I was overweight and decided to change that. I'm still changing that, and you can too. I took a picture of myself completely naked(weird, I know). I look at it before my workouts to remind me of what I want to get away from.

Tip: Stay away from pre-workout in your early stages. I tried it, thinking it was a miracle substance. It can be dangerous due to the stimulants pushing you too hard and stressing your heart. It made me feel jittery and it gives you the shits. Just stay away from it, at least for now.
