Think about the best you've ever felt in your entire life. Tell me about it.

Watching this happen on TV was probably the happiest moment in my life.

If you take even a brief glance at my reddit history, you'll find that I use reddit primarily to discuss baseball and my favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. Well, the Giants have been very, very successful as of late. They've won 3 World Series in the past 5 seasons (2010, 2012, and 2014) and have had sustained success for the first time in forever.

To put this into context, prior to 2010, they hadn't won a World Series in 56 years since they were based out of New York. They'd be good for 4 or 5 years then they would suck for a while, then they'd be good again, then they'd suck again, lather, rinse, repeat, etc. The 2000's were no exception as it started out promising, but after an excruciatingly painful defeat in game 6 of the 2002 World Series, everything went downhill for a while and they were mostly mediocre for my early-mid teens.

Then 2010 happened. This was mostly a very shitty year in my life for a multitude of reasons, but one thing I had was Giants baseball. It felt like I watched damn near all 162 games that year so I got to experience them coming out of nowhere to win it all in real time. When they got that final out, it was pure ecstasy. I know not everyone loves sports, but I think this Nick Hornby quote from his book Fever Pitch adequately sums it up:

“...So please, be tolerant of those who describe a sporting moment as their best ever. We do not lack imagination, nor have we had sad and barren lives; it is just that real life is paler, duller, and contains less potential for unexpected delirium.”
