Adults (25+) of Reddit, What is the best non cliche advice you can give to a teenager?

  1. Sit at the front in school. Write down notes and then just arrange them first thing when you get home. Make it a habit. This alone should ensure you get through school with very good grades while spending as little energy as possible.

  2. Strike a fine balance between stuff you do at home and stuff that requires being outside. If you have to, err on the side of being out too much. Go out a lot. Get drunk on a regular basis. Meet people. Do stuff. Go on all available trips.

  3. About the stuff you do at home: Don't overemphasize a small niche at the cost of the big picture. If you have the time and a steady life situation, you can draw up a long-term checklist of the most important stuff to read, watch, listen to and play. Then slowly do it. You want to be well-rounded. (This applies to all life. Never set your identity as being this or that one-sided thing, for example "Oh I'm quiet, I don't talk much" or "I'm always the life of the party". You should be able to be all things when required.).

  4. If you're a guy, push-ups and a chin-up bar will get you very far. If a girl, I don't know... try squats and some light sport or dancing.

  5. Don't be impressed and intimidated by your peers - they're just acting. Don't mind how others see you. They're just irrelevant, powerless, broke, stupid kids. Just relax and have fun. Don't spend energy acting something you think is cool (you have no idea how dumb you look doing that!) but don't show your weak spots to people who are not very, very close to you. Don't put all your eggs in one basket socially. Don't let your social life suffer because of minor grudges you hold.

  6. Don't be averse to trying new things, even if they seem somewhat repulsive. You want try them out for the sake of having a taste. This doesn't apply to drugs (except weed) and possibly dangerous stuff like jumping of cliffs. (On that note: a motorcyle is a recipe for a tragedy. Do not own it. Try to never get into fights. Play it safe with your body.)

  7. In love play fair. Games are not worth your effort. Remember: if you're pining over a friend, chances are he or she is pining over a hotter, more popular friend.

  8. Meditate daily.
