African Americans of Reddit: Have you ever been called the n-word? How did you respond?

As a blackman I've never even heard of the concept of racism...lol...jk i deff have, a bunch. When they've said it sober to my face I usually have a witty retort that doesn't use race/sex/etc and I promptly proceed to square up. At that point they literally always statt walking backwards while throwing more slurs and I just stare and laugh till they moonwalk into the horizon like a true coward.

When it's yelled out of a passing car I roll my eyes and keep walking cause what's one more instances of white nonsense really? When they say it very intoxicated I just ignore them and stand my ground cause there's not a lot of gratification in beating up someone who can barely stand up.

Online? My policy is don't feed the trolls.

This whole wolrd was built to disrespect African people so honestly it's not much worse than knowing my grandmother died waiting for a hospital bed in a crowded neo-colonial hospital in a reaource rich country. It's not any worst than knowing the police can and have harassed me ad nauseum just cause and there's nothing I can do to stop them. It's not nearly as frustrating as being told I'm not a good "culture fit" in a job interview because I didn't laugh at some white guys joke about how "scary" black neighborhoods are. It's not as frustrating as knowing doctors tend to ignore the African women i know leading to much higher death rates during child birth or just like in general. It's way worst knowing im a math whizz but couldn't get in a class higher than geometry at my underfunded highschool setting my career back a decade. It's way worse seeing the lazy white kids I know get down payments for a house from mommy amd daddy when me and my siblings live hand to mouth despite our hard work and stable lives. It's way worst sitting at a table in am empty reaturant for two hours waiting for menus while white families get service and leave three times over in that same period. It's a whole lot worst knowing a million people just like you are doing slave labor in U S. prisons because they got unlucky when a cop had to fill a quota. I could go on all day. But yeah, the systemic oppression all across the globe is a lot more distressing than any one word.
