Alien: Resurrection is like....

Resurrection just annoys me...

There's some stuff I really enjoy... The slapstick elements of the initial evacuation are fun. The Betty's crew has an enjoyably Firefly feel to it. The idea of Ripley becoming a hybrid is interesting.

But then you've got stuff like the queen actually giving birth... And that newborn thing...

And the whole movie felt vaguely orphaned. Disconnected from the rest of the franchise.

Ripley isn't really Ripley. She's a clone. Or a hybrid. Or something. She doesn't have all her memories. She isn't the same person that went through hell on LV426. She isn't the same person that gave her life on Fiorina 161 to stop the xenos.

There's no evil corporation looming overhead, manipulating people for profit. Weyland/Yutani is gone. Instead we've got some kind of faceless military complex with no real clear motive for why they're doing what they're doing.

There isn't even an android with ambiguous motivations... I mean, sure, Call is an android. But she's clearly a good guy, right from the start. There's never any question of where her loyalties lie. No question of whether she's going to betray anyone. No question of whether she can be trusted.

Resurrection feels more like some kind of weird fan-fiction, than an official part of the franchise.
