Am I the type of person who shouldn't join the Marines?

You're right, Im just not in a position to become an officer in the guard right now. Commission opportunities in the guard are largely DSG meaning I'd have to give up my full-time military employment to commission, spend 4+ years as a DSG accruing TIS/TIG, then re-enter the AGR program later as an AGR. With kids in private school, retirement to save for, and a wife I intend to keep home its just not as feasible unless you're like a doctor or pilot or something and I'm not.

But in either case 20 years means 40 years old at retirement and kids still going through school. So when it comes down to it I'd rather have a job in the mil more than a mil pension. I'm not really sure why anyone would expect me to want to race to a 2nd career that I'll enjoy less.
