"America | Bernie Sanders" new ad featuring Simon And Garfunkel's song America

Do you not see the flaws with that? Do you believe a black person's views on racial inequalities are infallible and should be exempt from scrutiny?

Not at all, but when I speak to a black person about racial issues, I shut up and listen. I have a lot to learn. That doesn't mean I'll agree with every one of their views, but it does signal to me it's a good time to stop talking and engage my curiosity.

I have yet to encounter "I'm black, so I know better than you on racial issues" but then again, I'm pretty deferential on such discussions. I experience a different reality than most black Americans, so it really wouldn't be my place to tell them what should and should not matter to them.

but so often they have the same view as you; "we didn't have to explain why this is racist, it is because we're POC and we know better".

Please tell me how I did that. I made my point - the ad is not representative of the country's demographics. It may be, however, representative of Iowa's demographic. Moreover, it's not an inclusive ad. And that, in and of itself, is fine. It wasn't meant for me. I'm not the target audience. Although I'm somewhat confused by the lack of awareness in the Bernie base in trying to make this ad go national. It doesn't translate well to a national audience.

I also never implied it was racist...

Because I believe what is happening is so often people can decide what's offensive and expect everyone to accept it and change.

I see it more as a demand to discuss the issue. When that demand is met with, "This isn't an issue," that's not the dialogue that you seem to otherwise support.

This isn't ignoring movements like BLM etc etc it's holding them to an academic standard. Black people don't have a gene that means only they can understand what is and isn't racist- racism can be identified and explained. And if someone disagrees the debate should be continued, not just dismissed as stupid because it's 'lecturing to black people'.

Okay, let's focus on this ad. You're telling me lack of PoC in the ad is a non-issue. Please explain how that is "continuing the debate." Because it doesn't feel like a dialogue; it feels like you're trying to end a debate by not letting it start.

I'm hard of hearing. If someone comes up to me and complains about a loud noise, I don't tell them, "There is no loud noise." I MAY say, "I don't hear the loud noise," but both you and I understand that doesn't mean the topic should not be addressed.
