They wouldn’t have to put people out of work, though they probably should anyway. This would be for FY 2021, so starting in October, which is a fair amount of time to find a new job.

It’s not ideal, but tons of people are losing their jobs right now, because that’s what happens in a recession. It seems ridiculous to me to prop up the full staff of the military when so many other vital industries are being downsized. Government revenue for this year will take a huge hit from income tax losses, and the increased spending from CARES and bailouts is only going to stretch the debt further. We can’t wait forever to start cutting the bloated parts of the budget, and this one is long past due.
