America is a pretty damn great place to live

I moved, and I'm happier for it. I'm not naive, though. The United States is the best country in the world for a great many things: you can say or do basically anything and you can also FIND anything like holy crap it's so hard to find X in a foreign country and you never realized how much you took Wal Mart for granted until you're sitting in Austria and you need to purchase something after 9 PM, or sitting in Laos and you suddenly need a power drill.

Unfortunately the things America gives you access to require making a living wage and if you don't have that then you're one accident away from abject poverty. If you're a minority or don't speak English it's even worse. For some, the US is an awful, racist dystopia.

Also our work life balance sucks. Not saying it's the worst in the world (that honor goes to either Korea or Japan), but I have time for both honnies AND survival now that I moved.
