Americans of Reddit, why did a lot of Americans hate Obama?

For decades, blue collar white Americans could vote democratic and have their ideals generally covered.

In 2012, they really had to dig deep in the election booth. Obama was a Democrat, but he represented their greatest fear and vulnerability -- brown people.

In 2016 Trump exploited that fear. Mexican immigrants and people from the middle east were cast as devils, and they bought it.

Trump voters in the primary were primarily racist southern Democrats. They'd been screwed financially for decades by foreign manufacturing (a generally Republican principle, even though the Clintons are all in on it), but were more willing to fuck their futures by voting GOP than to address their crippling fear of the 'brown menace'.

In the general election all Republicans voted for him, because they do what their told and refuse to think about it.

This'll go -50, but fuck it. When the truth is ugly you won't find it at the top of the list.
