To only focus on their excess and ignore ours is disingenuously self-righteous. Most of us on this sub are rich. I thought I wasn't rich, but then I moved to a poor country and suddenly I'm 20x wealthier than my colleagues. That cappuccino I spend $5 on no longer looks that harmless when I know people who earn $60 a month.

Now, I won't lie to you, I'm being more charitable, but I still buy my cappuccinos. Fundamentally, what I want is not me to be as poor as some of the people I know, but is the people who live here to be wealthier.

So it really frickin' irks me to come back to the West and see middle class people who to pretend they're poor. Now, I know but everyone in the West is rich because society is structured differently and there are many socio-economic factors in play, but at least let's in the middle class but pretend like there's no excess in our lives when many people's economic goal is just to make $10k a year.

I can just imagine people from the country I'm living in post memes about Westerners, we post memes about Hollywood celebrities, and Hollywood celebrities post memes about tech billionaires.

The point here is not to crucify someone for being rich, but to judge based upon their method of acquisition of wealth, use of their wealth, and degree of desire to see a fair world.

So basically, to the people I've discussed above, stop being so eurocentric and check your frickin privilege.
