It's pretty clear we will disagree, especially with how personally charged that last message was. No matter the point I offer, you are not going to change your mind, and so far at least the points you have offered have not changed mine.

You're absolutely right, I always thought it was better for me to have been excluded from my sister's wedding

First of all, I never said that was better for you. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I understand how frustrating that can be from my inactive days. But I would imagine tithing was not the only commandment you were not keeping that would keep you out of the temple. I can't picture someone strictly following all the commandments of God, yet just skipping out on tithing.

As far as the Lorenzo quote goes, I could understand why the church would not print "who has means" in its meetings, and the reason why is because it would lead to people coming up with their own interpretation of that rule and justifying something for themselves. To tithe literally means to give 10%, and the church has always stood behind 10% being the standard measure of a full tithe. I don't understand what they changed. Do you have any other quotes to back up tithing was only for those who could "afford" it?

at the expense of the poor

... AND everyone else in the church. The poor's money doesn't really help the church at all, which is why I say that tithing is more for the individual than for the church. Of course I believe in the promise in Malachi and (not to put words in your mouth) you would probably say it's foolish and I'm wrong. I don't care to keep this argument going any further. I'm sorry you were excluded from your sisters wedding and I hope that you will have good interactions in the future with members from the LDS church.
