Doubling the minimum wage is excessive and will pull strings that have unknown effects on the global economy. Sure, automation is the future, but you cannot flip that switch overnight. Increasing minimum wage to $15 would be that switch. In effect, you've just given all American production and manufacturing to the largest global companies who can automate or produce it outside of America. And by the way America now loses all the tax revenue made from that business. Small and medium sized companies pay a huge % of America's income. Large/global companies can afford to evade via loopholes.

America now has less money. The cost of social programs increase doubly so to subsidize the newly unemployed, and to allow those to actually have enough buying power to afford the increased costs of goods (min. wage expenses will be passed down). America cannot afford to subsidize unemployment to the same degree it could prior. Subsidizing lower wages and keeping business in America allows for more buying power in our economy. Take away American business and increase cost of goods there is less money in circulation, and larger bills to pay.

The process of raising minimum wage should be gradual. This day in age the global economy is so complex bernie's min wage fix is not so straightforward.

Subsidizing via our tax isn't so bad. Some companies have abused it such as Wall Mart, but let's not let Wall Mart ruin everything. Increasing min. wage means we'll be subsidizing the poor even more, which relatively speaking isn't a huge part of our budget. Also taxes for everyone will be increasing. The super rich won't be paying though because the loopholes will still exist.

In my opinion, we're in for a bumpy road if we go down this path.
