In my neck of the woods (SWVA) - there is not a lot of diversity. A few of the black dudes I know have said they haven’t had issues and generally like the area but they definitely hear rough comments from people. Usually from either older people that are racist or younger white kids thinking that because they’re buddies with a black dude - they can use the n word. The latter obviously less malicious than the former, but I still find it offensive and cringe af.

If you are in or decide to visit swva - take in the natural beauty of the area and the food. There’s lot of great people here, but unfortunately we have our share of not go great ones too.
