What's the saddest thing that happened to an old school friend you don't see anymore?

Jon - Had a rough home life and experimented with meth when he was 18, since this was 14-15 years ago and everyone thought it was just "poor man's coke" and within a year heard he had an indictment out for him(for buying meth from a known dealer). He walked in front of the window where his mother was doing dishes and shot himself with his dad's gun. That was a sad funeral. The school let us all out early so we could walk from our class down to the funeral home.

Chris - Had a great life growing up, successful parents, nice home, dressed nice, didn't do drugs, etc; Was DEFINITELY going to college and making something of himself..Got into a car accident at 17 due to a drunk driver, got a 240k settlement and ended up addicted to Oxycontin(which was prescribed to him). Disappeared at 18 when he got the $ and came back addicted and broke. Still lives in his parents trailer(at 32 years old) and is still an addict and doesn't have a dime, or a job, or anything and is looking to get disability for some reason or another.

Mike - Was big into motocross. Everyone knew he was going to make it. He did big events, competed constantly and all of that when he was 16-17 which was huge for us, since we were all younger than him by a couple years. He was somewhat of a hero for us. Was competing at the local fair one year with EVERYONE in town in attendance and went through the fence...paralyzing him at 18. He's still big into it and pretty much has donated his life to the sport and the people in it now. It's definitely sad seeing him in a wheelchair unable to move, but he has the same spirit he always did and honestly I don't think he'll ever let that go.

Toby - The saddest one. He was a twin and so was I. We were very good friends growing up. He had a girlfriend who was crazy, seriously very manipulative who convinced him to try to hang himself. The rope broke and he survived and got help. She was the mother of one of his children, and eventually years later they reconciled. Within a few days of the reunion, he texted his brother saying that she was doing the same thing to him again, trying to get him to commit suicide. That night he sent the text, he went outside and hung himself. This time it worked.. The saddest part was during the funeral, his kids who were 5 and 7 both crying and screaming for them not to lower the casket into the ground and to "stop!" because their "daddy was in there".
