April 30 Daily Thread

A bit of a backstory, I was offered a PhD and recommended to do a masters so I could easily transfer, and well my masters topic would be that of the PhD. Well this was the end of the year so I had a bit less time to look for housing. Well my friend had literally just bought one so I was like yeah I'll move in with him. I'd rather my rent go to him than some shitty landlord.

Well he had issues with the house. Mainly that it took ages for the sale to go through, so I didn't get a contract till really late and by which time I couldn't look for alternative housing as there wasn't any and I had issues the year before that resulted with me living with strangers who were pricks.

But once I got the contract the rent had been upped by like 30/40% of what we agreed, shit like having a desk in my room wasn't there because it was 3x2.5m and a bunch of other minor shit. So I had to share a study which was fine. Except its not, especially when he spent a lot of time playing League of Legends and being angry. Also he and his gf would have his family stay in the living room so I wouldn't be able to use the living and also kitchen due to this. Oh and the house was way further out than it was made out to be and I wasn't able to check on it before moving in despite asking, so I was forced to commute in via motorcycle (too far to walk, buses were silly expensive and would take over an hour to get to uni).

Oh and when it came to the masters. Well my supervisor wouldn't not contact me no matter what I did, and it was the end of first term I had my masters project. So this was shit, and meant I was only able to start over the winter term. Well there was a shit ton of issues with family, namely being everyone getting hospitalised at once. So I got fuck all done.

Then I came back for the new year, thankfully had no exams, my supervisor continued not to contact me and the housing situation got worse in that I would be confronted about every little tiny issue such as not cleaning after cooking. Which is fair, but it would also be while I was eating the meal I had just cooked and these rules didn't apply to them.

Then they started having money issues (I believe), so he took up tutoring which then meant I couldn't be in the shared office when he was working so I had literally nowhere to work if I didn't want to pay to drive in to uni every single day which was too expensive to do because I was so much worse off because of the housing being upped so much in price.

Then on advice from my tutor I left for a week to stay with my gf to see if I could work better. Well my motorcycle got stolen so I had no way to get too and from uni reasonably or even get to the shops or whatever so I decided it wasn't worth failing so I deferred to the summer then with COVID19 it got deferred to the summer.

Theres a ton of other shit but this is the main reason. But yeah because of how far out I was I also just couldn't see friends easily as no one had parking and only one pub had parking. Which just meant I had no real way to be social outside of uni itself which when I was doing a different degree to all my friends meant I was literally not seeing anyone outside of going to the gym. Even then I was going to a different gym to everyone else to save petrol money!
