Are you for or against a universal basic income? Why or why not?

There are lots of factors at play, of course. Doubling the EFFECTIVE tax rates on businesses would be perfectly reasonable and changing lots of tax laws to stop the avoidance of taxes highly doable. I’m not running for office - I haven’t got an entire portfolio planned out - there would be huge structural changes to the economy as a result of UBI over time and they would be fine.

A lot of people get way too hung up on how things work right now as means to say “it can’t be done!” No one has all of the answers, but there’s a lot of evidence to say we should try. As I have also said in another comment, borrowing aggressively to support such a scheme would be fine - the budget does not need to balance in the short to medium term.
