Are you making a documentary and/or have a kickstarter? Discuss and post it here!

Hello there! Wonderful to find a discussion forum for this. I would love to tell you about the project that I am working on. We are using Indiegogo.

Picture This Productions are filming a new documentary, "Seen and Heard". The cameras been following a handful of both hearing and Deaf cast and crew members throughout the process of mounting the play, in particular shining a spotlight on those in the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities who often live largely unnoticed in the majority hearing society. The filmmakers track them outside the theatre space as some Deaf members struggle to find work in the hearing world, learn to drive in a special class for Deaf students and deal with the rejection of parents who refuse to acknowledge their daughter’s Deaf partner. Individual dramas unfold against the larger backdrop of the theatrical production’s premiere - a feat in itself when the team must unite to craft a play that works equally well technically and story-wise for Deaf and hearing audience members. An additional challenge is that the actors and technical crew work in four different languages: English, French, ASL (American Sign Language) and LSQ (langue des signes québécoise).

We have been hiring professional ASL and LSQ interpreters for this project. The cost of continuously filming over several months and the need for sign language interpreting (who we will need all the way through post-production in the editing suite) are two of the main reasons Picture This Productions launched an international crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo on May 18th that will last until June 19th. They are looking to raise over $20,000 Canadian to complete the project. Contributors to the crowd funding campaign can pick up perks or even pre-order a digital copy of the documentary.
