Why are most Americans not interested in football?

I think MLS is gaining some traction - but other than Olympics and World Cup, I don't really have a team to root for. I can't really explain the why but I'm a fan of the Philly 4 major sports teams because I was born here and grew up watching them... But, it feels weird to look at something like the Premier League and just adopt a team without any type of connection.

Also, people get really into 1 or 2, or even all 4 of the major sports here so it's hard to find "room" for lack of a better term. Especially considering Basketball and Football also have huge college followings, that's makes it like 6 top level options.

I still watch soccer here and there, especially for Olympics and somewhat with the World Cup
