Why aren't tanks remote controlled?

I'm probably oversimplifying things, but if you're in a tank think about how many more threats you have to deal with versus in an aircraft. A jet can try to out-run or out-fly a missile or opponent. A tank doesn't move that fast and threats can come from guys hiding in a foxhole, behind a rock, trees, a helicopter that is hovering over the treeline or hilltop, etc. And that says nothing about CAS or carpet bombing.

I'm sure AI could eventually take over the duties of a tank commander, but I think we're decades away. Remote control isn't going to be reliable enough given how quickly things can change and how a crew needs to be able to work and coordinate their activities to function together. A remotely operated drone that is flying over a target in observation mode is much more focused in its mission and deliberate.
