Russia's notorious for blatant lies even in peacetime, and has high rates of organised crime and gun violence. Occam's razor says this could have been some gopnik thuggery gone bad, which this time spun out of control due to one side using it to hype up their SMO and another using it on for revolutionary cred.

Anyone remember how for years in the west we'd have the odd attack, and multiple jihadist groups half a world away would take credit at the same time, only for authorities to conclude it was just some nutter with a bone to pick against society?

This could end up being a legit terrorist attack by a Ukrainian-affiliated rogue element, but for now we don't even have a consistent account of what even happened. How many were there? Were hostages taken or not? Did they light up a bus full of kids on their way to school or were local schools closed?

At the moment it seems like we're drawing big conclusions from social media posts and professional propagandists. Again.
