The barks are deafening… and crate training has been really hard

If you don’t like barking. Then giving into your dogs whims will only make her use barking even more to get what she wants. I am sorta in a similar footing as you. When I was crate training my dog she would bark a lot. My neighbors starting complaining constantly.

I don’t think you’re being unfair by doing what is necessary to train your dog. Ignoring her bark and making her become content with her new environment. Anyone complaining about sound at an apartment is most likely just a busy body. At best you can explain to them how to properly train a dog, so that they can learn if they ever get a dog.

An apartment is not a country inn retreat. If your neighbors want that, then they should buy a home in the middle of no where. I would just explain to your neighbors that they will have to be patient with her. Just know that some people don’t understand dogs at all and think training them is as easy as paying a trainer for 2 seconds.
